Chicago Receiving Grant For New City Monuments

Chicago will be using grant money to fund eight new city monuments. Mayor Johnson announced that the city is set to receive a six-point-eight-million-dollar grant from the Mellon Foundation. The monuments include a memorial to the survivors of torture under former CPD Commander Jon Burge. Other monuments will be dedicated to police shooting victim Rekia Boyd, the Chicago Race Riots of 1919, labor leader Mother Jones, gospel singer Mahalia Jackson
