Reverend James Meeks Retires After 38 Years

The pastor who founded one of Chicago's largest African American churches is saying goodbye. The Reverend James Meeks gave his final sermon yesterday at Salem Baptist Church after 38 years. Meeks passed the torch to incoming Pastor Charlie Dates. The former Democratic state senator also received a city proclamation for his service from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
